ORCATECH
(Oregon's Roybal Center for Aging and Technology)
The purpose of ORCATECH is to conduct applied research to keep older persons independent, active, and productive in later life. The Roybal Centers were established in order to encourage the application of existing basic knowledge about cognitive and psychosocial aging to a wide range of important practical problems facing older persons. The Point of Care Lab provides the "technology arm" for ORCATECH.
Intel
Intel's Home Health Research and Innovation team inspire, invent, and investigate new technologies and opportunities and drive innovation, based on a deep understanding of the needs, values and practices of real people.
Our collaboration:We are currently collaborating on research projects investigating the use of context-aware medication prompting.
HomeFree
Homefree is a provider of wireless monitoring solutions for senior housing and homecare. HomeFree systems can be configured for the monitoring of individuals at home environments or to accommodate the monitoring of groups of patients in institutional facilities. Data is constantly gathered and analyzed, not requiring patient's active intervention, enabling patients to go about their daily routines undisturbed.
Our collaboration: We are working closely to evaluate enhancements to their technology that allow more accurate tracking of movements in the home.
SPRY Learning
SPRY Learning is developing computer-based learning curricula for seniors living in residence centers. Their software helps adults reduce their risk for Alzheimer's disease and other forms of cognitive decline.
Our collaboration: Dr's Pavel and Jimison are collaborating with SPRY Learning on a NIST grant to investigate the use of computer games to assess cognitive change.
Elite Care
Elite Care is a family-style residential care facility that uses "smart home" technology to prolong residents' independence, allow staff to identify any health problems early, and provide family members the ability to check up on their loved ones via a website.
Our collaboration: We are working with Elite Care on the development of algorithms for assessing sleep patterns and movements in bed.
CAST
(Center for Applied Special Technology)CAST's mission is to develop and deploy technologies to improve the aging experience in America. They aim to do this in four ways: 1) showing how technology can improve quality of life for seniors and reduce healthcare costs 2) accelerating technology research and design pilots with seniors 3) advocating to remove barriers to the rapid commercialization of proven technologies 4) promoting national dialogue about standards to ensure interoperability and widespread access to aging service technologies.
